FIU Online is expanding the possibilities of online learning with Online LIVE; a fully online course modality with synchronous digital class meetings. Starting today, faculty have a chance to teach through this format in a controlled pilot program slated for the 2021 Summer and Fall terms.
With the aim of creating authentic learning experiences, Online LIVE courses leverage cutting-edge technologies and evidence-based pedagogies to foster increased student interaction. The FIU Online design team will build these courses with rigorous guidelines that meet the required State University System of Florida quality standards.
Training & Development
Interested faculty must complete our Online LIVE training and collaborate with an FIU Online instructional designer on course design and development. This eight-week training program requires participants to attend four sessions:
Module 1 Monday, March 15th at 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. or Tuesday, March 16th at 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. |
Module 2 Monday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. or Tuesday, March 30th at 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. |
Module 3 Monday, April 19th at 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. or Tuesday, April 20th at 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. |
Module 4 Monday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. or Tuesday, April 27th at 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. |
In addition to the LIVE sessions, participants must also meet with their Online LIVE instructional designers throughout the program.
Online LIVE Application
If you are interested in participating in the pilot program, we ask that you please fill out the application form by March 5, 2021.
To balance class options for students in support of campus repopulation, FIU Online has limited the number of Online LIVE courses we can create for the pilot program at this time. Please note that FIU Online will need to contact department chairs to obtain approvals for requests.
We look forward to working with you on these advancements in online learning at FIU.
