Meet Zoom, FIU’s New Web Conferencing Tool

FIU Panthers Love Zoom

After a successful yearlong pilot, we’re happy to announce that Zoom will become FIU’s official web conferencing application for real-time course lectures, meetings, and tutoring. Members of the University community, including the Division of IT, FIU Online, and faculty representatives, found that the vast majority of users in the pilot familiar with FIU’s web conferencing applications preferred Zoom for its more intuitive user experience, stability, and fewer interruptions of service. Zoom will also provide all users the ability to host their own video conferences.

Timeline for Transitioning to Zoom

All users will be transitioned to Zoom and any Adobe Connect recordings can be saved to Mediasite upon request.

  • April 8, 2019
Zoom will be available to the FIU community. Users may continue to use Adobe Connect and can have their recordings migrated upon request.
  • August 26, 2019
Adobe Connect will be available in an archive mode only. This means users will be able to view and access old meetings and recordings, but will not be able to create new content in Adobe Connect.
  • January 1, 2020
All users will be fully transitioned to Zoom and access to Adobe Connect will no longer be available.
