FIU Online hosts first annual Symposium

FIU Online hosted its first ever FIU Online Symposium on November 9, 2016 at the FIU Stadium Club.

The structure varied from traditional conferences and workshops. The event had a single stage with presenters rotating every 25 minutes. Roundtables located throughout the venue made it possible to interact with the speakers after their sessions.

The smaller venue allowed for conversations and networking to happen between breaks and lunch. FIU Online instructional designers were also in attendance to chat with faculty and answer any questions.

The Symposium kicked off with introductory remarks by Joseph Riquelme, Interim Assistant Vice President of FIU Online and David-John Palmer, Associate Director of Academic Programs.

A total of eight sessions were presented. The sessions touched on important distance education topics such as affordability, quality, accessibility and academic integrity. Also invited to speak were representatives from the Disability Resource Center, FIU Libraries, NBC Learn, Office of Academic Integrity and University Teaching and Learning.

Going forward, the Symposium will be offered during the Fall semester and the larger Annual Conference will continue to be held during the spring semester.
